If the damaged toothsubstance is too big for a filling or an inlay, the tooth can be prepared for a crown, which acts as a cover over the tooth, although not being noticeable as such. This procedure takes place in one or more sittings. Speaking and chewing will not differ from the former state. On the contrary, it will improve considerably. During the preparations only the least amount of toothsubstance will be removed, in order to save as much of the healthy toothsubstance as possible. Consequently only that part of tooth which is very damaged will be replaced by complete ceramic.
